How do I build a website?

Posted on September 16, 2009

There is more than one way to build a website. The main way for the average individual to build a website is to purchase design software.  Web design software is available for the beginner or the professional and it really depends on your expertise when it comes to choosing. If you are quite familiar with hypertext markup language then you are ready for professional grade software. However if you are searching on how to build a website you are probably looking for something a bit more basic. The best software for a beginner is any that allow a WYSIWYG or what you see is what you get editing.

The first thing you need to do is decide what level of software to use. There are many to choose from such as Microsoft Front Page and Dreamweaver’s, once you have the software it is time to build a website. The best thing you can do is begin with a piece of paper and map out the type of site you want to build. Decide where you want pictures, text and or graphics, this will save you a lot of time and headaches later on. From this point, it is a simple matter of uploading your photo’s or images and inputting your desired text.

How do I choose a website builder?

Posted on September 16, 2009

Choosing a website builder may seem like a daunting task, however with a few tips it can be much easier. A website builder allows a complete novice to build a professional looking website for fun or business without knowing complicated programming language, file transfers or website hosting techniques.

The best website builder will be one that fits your current needs and that includes your budget. Like anything else you can spend as little or as much as, you want. The key is to find good middle ground between cheap and hard to use and expensive but super easy to use. For instance, the website builder that you can purchase for a song from Go Daddy is cheap and accessible but it is somewhat difficult to use.

On the other hand, there are sites like Site Build-It, Moonfruit and Free Webs that offer a great website builder free or for a nominal cost. One thing you need to be wary of with free tools is that many times you will have advertisements in the banners and other locations of your site. Sometimes it is better to pay for software than to put away with annoying banners or ads.
